Yes, his dad had a legitamate reason to invade Iraq. I, however, know no one that met his dad, so I really have no way of comparing the two other than their presidential rule.

A lot of the reason for people who go to ivy league schools to become successful is from A) They are kids of wealthy/powerful folks so start in good position B) in school they develop connections with the former reason and C) they're prestigious schools, so they're more likely to gain high tier employment.
This is not meant to say that the ivy leagues are a bunch of crap, they are legitimately considered excellent schools and if you get in without being related to alumni or wealth, then you are a smart or hardworking person. However there are other schools that do things excellently even thought they're public. CUNY and UC Berkeley leap out as fantastic schools that won't destroy your wallet. You get a JD from Berkeley and you're okay. It doesn't have to be Harvard or Princeton.

I'm odd. I didn't actually go to UCSD, but most of my friends did. And I'm still part of a group that ends up incorporating a lot of college kids due to the local SCA chapter.
