Warhammer40K MMO
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:29:41 pm »

Since I know people here like Warhammer40K, here is an MMORPG I know of. It might not be fluffy, but meh. You might want to form a Bay12Games clan if you wish.

I have this game engine by the way, but I don't remember too much of the tips, other than basic tricks.

I just want to interject and say that when I got the demo for the official Warhammer MMO, I thought it was going to be a WH40K one.  Fired it up and was SO disappointed.  "What the hell!  This is just Warcraft with less interesting PvE!"

To be honest, the upcoming Warhammer 40k shooter interests me more. The bad thing is that I don't think it's going to come out on the PC.

I never downloaded that Warhammer demo, nor did I believe it'd run on my computer, but I was thinking (hoping?) it was a 40k one, too.

It's not meaningfully different from WoW, except that when you join a PvP event, your level gets boosted to 3/4 of the way through the level range for that event (so level 11 in an 11-20 area won't get owned).  Which is kind of cool.  But after playing PvP for a while I said "Why am I not playing TF2 instead?" and left.

Also:  Upcoming WH40k shooter?  Ooooh!  Where?  :D

"Cinemaction"?  I think they watched "300" a few too many times.  I don't know if that whole "change the camera for one second for a slow-mo finishing move, then snap back to the action" is going to fly.  I think it's a game that would look awesome to watch for the first fifteen minutes, then get boring quick.  Hope I'm wrong!  But it's not a PC game anyway so I guess I don't really care.

Though I think they'll add in more stuff then what you just saw, because otherwise, though I love Warhammer 40K, it seems like I'd have more fun playing Too Human then the Space Marine game that's coming out.

And yes, the finisher move highlights, which besides giving you more rich backgrounds to look at for a few minutes before moving on to kill the next Chaos Space Marines, doesn't seem like much. I'll likely wait for a friend to tell me how it is before I even think of buying it.

As for the MMO, which is a little more on topic...

I think it won't be so interesting, if it isn't an FPS. If its another Third Person RPG with guns, then screw it, I'd rather shell out a monthly fee for Steam and play some good games that WON'T kill my PC. However, if they managed, and I tell you, I hate MMO's for over-hype and MANY other reasons, to make an awesome FPS Warhammer 40K game, where PVP brings to mind an awesome mass battle like DoW, then I might shell out some money to play.

But usually, as WH Online wasn't all that great in my eyes, games that *should* have been awesome, are far below the mark. MMO's not excluded.

No more RPG crap. Grinding trails. Equipment Sales. And no more goddamn idiotic communities that I just want to drown in a toilet.

WorkerDrone, has spoken.

I still have hope some mmo will break out of that mold.

Spellborn disappointed me recently, as I only managed to play it for a couple sessions before saying screw it. I had some better hopes for it. *shrugs* Time to wait for the next one.

"We think we're going to be pleasing the warhammer fans."

Yes I'm sure tickled pink by the fact that the Space Wolf is stabbing people with a chainsword. They are aware it's meant to, you know, slice? See the teeth? Hear the motor? You can't be constantly impaling people with a blunt sword like that.

Guys?

There already is a Warhammer40K MMO. Not a good MMO, but a MMO nevertheless. It's in my first post, and I wanted people to play it.

Anyone here going to create a Bay12Games guild to try and take over that MMO? Is anybody going to review it, point out its flaws, and recommend people not to touch it?

It's not licensed, and it looks terrible.   I hope it gets C&Dd.

Looking at the guide, this is just some other garbage game with WH40k names thrown on haphazardly.    I know when I think 40k, I think of orchards and hawks.

Edit:  Just sent an email to Games Workshop telling them that this game is using their intellectual property.   I know they're pretty hardcore about preventing that sort of thing.

The third-person shooter looks like it could be really cool, but yeah, if he's going to be stabbing they could've at least given him a powersword instead of a chainsword.

Also, I really hope that guy was terrible at the game, because there was a lot of standing around and letting people shoot you in there.

I imagine there'd be some upgrade paths, as all action games do these days.
