Do the dwarfy thing and let it soak in magma! Or, the next-best thing: cooking or mineral oil. Plus, if your PC heats the oil super hot, you can make fries. There are no downsides!

Maybe you can attach some sort of heatsink to it? Just get some thermal paste and a
.

Maybe it works.

The oil thing is an option too, but if it doesnt work, youre screwed and can throw the thing away. Well, not really, but it will stay "ewwwww" forever. First of all, grab an usb extension cord, plug in the adapter, submerge the adapter. Maybe submerge (for extra stylepoints) an old fan into the oil, too, even if it spins slowly it will move the oil around and aid the heat dissipation.
Watch out for oil crawling up the cables because of the capillary effect or whatever you call it in english.

Just google "oil computer", it DOES work. But before that, try the heatsink.

both are solutions for only a few bucks.

I second the cheap heatsink. If you have a spare, yo ucan't loose anything trying it. Otherwise, you need a new card thing.

You sure its the adaptor? Try opening your computer case and use a cheap (like 2-3 bucks) can of compressed air to blast out any dust. Pay special attention to the cooling fans. Keeping the adaptor distanced from the computer itself might work a bit.

Yeah, Steam downloads are annoying to work with.

Fun fact: If you take a small Tupperware box, seal the lid tightly, poke a small hole in the side, then spray in any compressed air freshener, the temp in the box will drop to fridge levels in 2 seconds.

Secondary fun fact: If you flip certain brands of compressed air upside down and spray, the resultant liquid can quickly cause frostbite.

I found that out the hard way.  Some of it hit my hand and it burned like I was getting a wart frozen.

Turn of temperature.

Serious: I would return that adaptor to wherever you got it, cause that aint normal.
