I think a good way to improve it would be to add bridges on the sides that fling stuff/hapless victims in to the pit. However, I'm not sure how reliable bridges are as improvised catapults.

Not very!  I've seen creatures fly sideways after being hit by a retracting drawbridge.

ive established an almost foolproof sandlion pit except its connected to a lever not a pressure plate which it will be (maybe) ive modded in GCS as pets and all that shit and now they breed like hell also alot of giant bats which are mine like the be with the spider no idea why.

Nice. My pit was only 2 z levels under the bridge so the things that droped down actually resists quite a bit.

the orcs die when they fall and that quite fun but giant cave spiders sucks against orcs i think i will lower their dam block or something or add more goblin races.
