usually about 4-5 tiles from the source ime.

Hmm, with the fort setup I mentioned it's probably doable, but there's also the fps concerns to take into account.

I've managed to put this mist generator together and my statues get covered with mud :o

Does anyone know how to deal with this?

The mud is inconsequential. Purely a cosmetic issue.

Possible solutions though.. Hmm..

Can statues be built on grate style floors? Increases number of zlevels by 1, but then mud happens on the tile below the grate. In theory.

You can have statues hang in mid-air or over downstairs by using constructed floor then removing it after statue is built, I suppose :v
