Reason for the Atheist thread lock?
« on: December 04, 2010, 02:40:37 pm »

Toady?  Three Toe?  A post would have been nice as to what the lock was for.  I am not sure there was reason for a lock.

Making a new thread to discuss a thread that just got locked, good idea.

Because arguing about religion and/or politics is pointless.

Probably because it's a huge topic on a sensitive subject and the OP hasn't logged on in over a year to lock it himself.

And yeah, this could have just gone in the sad thread.

There are topics much bigger than that, so thread size alone wouldn't cause it to be locked, nor would the fact that the OP of that thread hasn't been around for over a year.

It's because it was a tire fire.  There's no way to put it out, and it'll never stop burning, so Toady One drove by in a bulldozer and scooped it up.

Well, I had a thread locked without explanation too.
I didn't bother to ask because it was pretty unproductive, but a simple word, just to make sure it's not a bug/give a better explanation of the forum guideline would be nice.

How could any of you actually need an explanation?  How could one look over the last several pages of that thread and not think it needed shutting down?

I was going to suggest it might have been the original poster, but vitaoma hasn't logged on since May of 2009.  That's probably another good reason - if there's no one around to police the thread, the Adams' have to watch it.  And how do you think they feel about it?

Let's see, why would Toady want to lock a flame war?

I didn't really see a flame war, then again I didn't look at it that closely.

Still, if its something obvious like a flame war, he wouldn't really need to say why when the reason is pretty obvious.

It wasn't so much a flamewar as it was two men constantly teetering on the edge of a cliff face.

With no OP to lock it.

Like Aqizzar said, the who thing is pretty self-evident. That thread needed to die.

Yeah, I thought this was self-explanatory.  It hadn't been posted in for a month, and then it got resurrected mainly with an argument about whether somebody was a troll or not... and it caught another moderator report.  The lack of opening poster doesn't help.  Anybody is welcome to restart a thread on the same topic -- preferably somebody who is going to stick around and has a mature non-trolling interest in the subject matter.
