I have you tried the roll back function? If you are using XP, right click on My computer->Manage->Device manager->Other Devices. You should see the VGA driver in yellow. Double click, go into the driver tab then click roll back driver. Hopefully this should solve the problem as it takes the driver to the previously installed one.  If this doesn't work, I suggest buying a new graphics card, yours is looking awfully old.

rollback won't work, since i installed several drivers (and none of them worked) i'll try reinstalling the one that was on the CD at the beginning.

I'm not sure if this will help, but what company made your Graphics card? You can go on their site and see what driver version they recommend.

NVIDIA. and i did what you said. i installed that version 3 times, didn't work.

i just reinstalled the old drivers... might be outdated, but at least they work

also, i decided to buy a new computer (graphic card is newer than the computer)

but if i buy a new computer, it will have vista!

I bet you could find a copy of XP and install it yourself, or have a computer shop install it. Just make sure you get copies of all the installation discs for your pre-installed software, as that'll go out the window when you replace the OS.

i'll just ask at the computer shop if they can do that... i am sure that if you need some discs, they will have them.

Well, if the comp is supplied with a VISTA OS, the shop probably won't replace it with XP....well at least it works like this here, in Hungary.

I used to have an nvidia geforece XT - best thing i ever did was dump it in the trash and upgrade.

Gave me non-stop nv4disp.dll blue screens and kernel dumps

got a new mobo and a ati radeon hd4850 - no problems since

moral of story nvidia release crappy drivers and/or hardware that are unstable and pissed me off when i had to use em, ati one far more stable

Andrea, I would suggest that you work with some of the guys in this forum, and build your own computer. You can get a much better machine for the price, and avoid all the bloatware they come packed with at the store.

If you're still looking at repairing your current computer, I suggest DriverMax. I install it as soon as I have networking set up on my Windows boxes, then let the software install all of the recommended drivers.

i had old drivers on the computers, and i reinstalled them. oddly, the game that, by not running, led to all this, now runs fine.

computers are odd. a new computer is still ocming though. this one has been around for about 5 years i think.
