[40d] 'inactive' pumps move magma
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:31:27 pm »

so, i have some glass magma pumps hooked to wind power. one windmill(40 power), and a system that needs 60 power to work (2 pumps). i had not expected magma to move yet, as it still says inactive, but the magma is up TWO levels now. the lower level has 7/7 in one spot. the upper had 1/7 when i noticed it.

after pumping a good area full of magma, i started my 'pumps to nowhere' (well.. up over a road so far), not yet having decided what its for. by the time any power was connected, the system would have need 60 power to work, only 40 available. as far as i can tell it should not have pumped one level, let alone 2.

the pumps are not in manual use, so im a bit confused as to how i have 7 spaces of 5/7 and 6/7 and magma up another level beside. (2 pumps, 6 gears, and 10 axles).

Were they ever in manual use in the past?

nope. they were a still-under-construction work outside my fort.

the only thing i can think of, is that it was raining, and the storm may have taken the power of one windmill from 40 to 60+?

I saw something similar when I tried building the new-design mist generator.

I didn't have enough windmill power at first to run all eight pumps that I had hooked up.

But the water moved one "hop" anyway.  So the first pump either was running or managed to run one cycle before stalling.

You had windmills too?  Maybe those do experience gusts or whatever.  I'm not sure anyone really knows what the deal is with wind.

Yeah, if you are in certain places there will be mountain/valley winds and sea breezes during the morning/evening that will pass very quickly in dwarf mode.  It should probably just turn them off there.
