We'll, at least that post made some sense. Toonyman?

You just made half a lick of sense.

It's like I don't even know you.

Rumors about me:

I know everything there is to know about everything possible to know in the universe and beyond. (Obviously incorrect.)

I have a gaming rig that puts the US government to shame. (Kind of true... Since they don't use gaming rigs...)

I enjoy classical music. (No.)

I grow and cook special drugs for myself. That's what makes me so alert. (Nope. I don't do drugs at all. Let alone grow and cook them myself.)

I am stupid. (Contradicts with first rumor. Also not true.)

It is rumored that I'm a cross between Brain May and James May. This isn't wholly true because I'm a bassist who doesn't get made fun of by Jeremy Clarkson.

It is also rumored that I have a portal to Wikipedia's random article button in my head.

Also the general rumors that go round if you're to lazy to get a girlfriend.

Haha!

I just had a bunch of kids in school whine because they had to WATCH a boring movie (which I found enjoyable Apollo 13).  Don't they realize that they are skipping work?  They are too stupid to see the significance!  Ofcourse I wouldn't mind doing the easy astronomy work...

I'm not sure that its man's tendency to learn quickly that makes him cling to his original notions.  I learn preposterously quickly, and while I usually react violently to ideas that I disagree with, there are a lot of things that I have revised, established, or reversed my opinion on.

In fact, that seems to be a tendency of lower minds - accepting X on the grounds that it seems to be the case, without asking why.

I don't think I've heard a rumor about me since elementary school, so I can't relate to you folk.  Though there are many instances where I have been unquestionably grouped with wrongdoers or affiliations with whom I have no ties.  THAT sets me off, though in the latter case, I usually write off whoever made this mistake as not worth my time.

I think those technically count as rumours, but keep in mind that rumours generally don't seem to get to the target. Since you have been grouped, I would say that you would be about medium risk for gossip.

From my reading, the current understanding holds that children need to believe authority figures, namely parents, on information of the world in order to survive. There are series of rules of thumb, which aren't known instinctively. Like red means hot. Growls from animal mean danger. Falling from heights are bad. Those aren't exact examples, but things along those lines.

So when Mommy says 'Dont go to X because Z lives there.' The kid at younger age tend to believe them. As they have to.

This may also explain on how superstitions get accepted as fact, from my reading it can take as little as three generations for a new superstition to be accepted by the social group as fact.

Children don't have any reference to what the world is either. Tell them that Z is dangerous and lives at X. They don't have anything to cross compare.

Rambling a bit. Its a survival trait. A much needed one. Though it needs to be tempered in later life with critical thinking to lessen erroneous information from being accepted.

The only rumor I have dealt with was myself being gay.

I understand the basis for this rumor, but it still annoys me. I don't like being misidentified.

Uh... The other is that I'm atheist. That only got me in trouble once when I was at religious gather for no good reason.

I don't really care if someone calls me gay because they just say that when they get mad at you.  It means nothing.

When your boss does that, you can't really write it off. I've had some nasty rumors spread about me that got to the ears of an interviewer who Googled me  :-\

Heh.

You can't google my name, its one used by a celebrity. His international fan club imdb links and the like take up first page. I'm also not into social websites, which cuts down on my visibility.
