Let's Play: Tactics Ogre (Knight of Lodis)
« on: May 04, 2009, 08:14:35 pm »

Alright. So. You guys should all know the drill; I play TO:KoL, and tell you guys all about it. The good news is, you all get to pick a character, and what you want your character to be. I've never done an LP before, so as far as equipment and spells go, I'll just kinda make it up as we go. I'll try to have lots of screenshots, and funny-fy the text.

Pros/Cons of using TO:KoL as an LP?

Pros:
-Lots of character customization; class, equipment, spells.
-Emblems! Levels! Stats I can actually show you with ease!
-Heart-wrenching storyline (...sure let's go with that)

Cons:
-None of you get to say anything in the storyline, really, since I'm Alphonse and the rest of the storyline characters have set names.

...So who's in?!? I'll just do the tutorial bit while I wait for replies. By the way, I don't know what the maximum team capacity is for this game, but it IS a tactics game, and max capacity has to be AT LEAST 16 (probably more). So yeah... basically anyone at all who wants a character can have one. Don't worry about money, once I'm past like the fourth stage money stops being a problem.

As far as classes go, we need:
-Myself
-an offense caster (preferably a woman, believe it or not...)
-a healer
-a wingman (Canopus anyone?)
-An angel knight, but you're going to be a 'normal person' tank until late game though
-probably another offense caster
-MOAR TANKS (knights, valkyries, swordsmasters)

So yeah. Excuse me while I go do the tutorial bits and upload some pictures.

Ironic. I was thinking about doing another LP for the SNES Ogre Battle, but you can't name characters. Alas.

Anyway, I'll think of something I want to be.

I'm not sure what version you're playing Shoruke, but if you can name people, then name one of the local badasses, preferrably a spellcaster, after me.

I remember playing this game, getting all the characters you want into the acceptable, but fickle stat ranges in order to upgrade them into what you want is intensely frustrating.

I also realized this when I visited the local Genghis Khan exhibit today.  Go figure.  I'm just going to have to keep out of "so who do you think is hottest" conversations from now on.

"Oh, me?  Well, you know... that one professor.  Yeah, he's probably 60, whatever.  And Genghis Khan.  Er..."

This game fucking consumed me in 2003.  And 2005.  And I still haven't beaten it - the final boss is unbeatable.  No one can prove me wrong.  No one!

You can rename people you've already hired right?

Duke must tank! My mountain of flesh shall absorb the harm that the frail casters would succumb to! My one true merit is not dieing!

I tried Tactics Ogre(No extra title) before, and I felt bored during the second level. I suppose I shall try it again.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Strife shall enter the field of combat.

Never played the game though.

Okay. Can I be something that'll end up either dead, as a dragoon, or as a warlock? A male human, that is.

Because the hawkmen in this game look ugly.

Shut your mouth, Hawkmen rock.

What's weird is, between the plot and a few mid-battle conversations, I wound up with more people than I could ever field.  Including a bunch of dragons.

I've beaten March of the Black Queen before, took a hell of a long time.

Can't say I understood any of the story though, maybe it's an ongoing thing with the series?

I stopped playing this about half way through when I realized that I was hopelessly underleveled, because I had been trying to convert every enemy unit in every engagement. Even those little goblin fairy guys.

And really, the hawkmen in this game look stupid. I don't understand how they could downgrade from the badass looking hawkmen in March Of The Black Queen to these ones.

Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis is for the gameboy advance.
No, you cannot rename people already in your party. But you can name people you 'hire' at the store. (That's right. You 'hire' people at the grocery store, and for a measly 1,000 goth, they fight to the death for your cause).
As for hawkmen, their looks are up to your personal tastes, I just find them damn useful, especially near the start (which I am).

Spoiler: Story (click to show/hide)

So. Classes thus far:
Inaluct: None yet.
ChaoticJosh: caster (preferably badass)
Aqizzar: maybe? You didn't really say you want to join but you've expressed interest? Maybe hawkman since I need one?
Duke 2.0: tank. Knight, specifically.
Strife: none yet, but probably ranged attacker... unless you're fine with being a chick? (in which case valkyrie)
Inaluct: Dead, Dragoon, or warlock. Probably you'll switch between dragoon and warlock.

Next: Solea and Scabellum!

Not a chick please. Cyborg-Strife was bad enough.
