Intro to Humanities final project
« on: May 04, 2009, 11:22:39 pm »

Not sure what this is called. It's made up of 47 640x480 pictures. They were all taken on a crappy digital camera, as evidenced by the dark circles surrounding some of the pictures. I'm confident this would be better if I had a better camera and had taken more than three hours to assemble it. I was attempting to do a sort of fisheye thing with the ceiling of my room being the center, but as you can see, it gets increasingly harder to line up the images the higher they are.

This is my final project for my Intro to Humanities class. It's a picture of my dorm room. I resized this to show to someone I know. Since it was already uploaded, I figured I might as well post it here. The filename is misleading, though. The real thing is 5x this size, not 2x.

Don't laugh too hard at my dabbling Gimp skills. Damn, this looks horrible. It's kind of hard to line things up perfectly using only rotate, skew, and the perspective tool. Hey, at least I'm not being graded on my ability.

The person who tells me what this type of thing is called wins one internet.

Did you just post a bunch of vegi-dicks on my board?  I've been trying to combat forum devolution a bit, and that involves fewer vegi-dicks!

Sorry. I'm stupid. I guess I should look at the pictures better.

My professor seems to think so, and I believe him insofar as it nets me a good grade.

It's interesting.  It looks like it was a successful mosaic in terms of technical stuff, it got the job done and depicts a scene.

I do wanna comment on what makes Pearblossom Highway art in my mind though.  That one seems to have cubist influences, to me.  Small but interesting parts of the picture are made up of exactly one well-centered photo.  Every part of the picture is a detailed and centered shot of SOMEthing, even the chunks of empty pavement.  Your eye is drawn to see each part of the picture as a picture in itself, framed and centered.  Every tree is the sole focal point of its own photos, every rock is important enough to see from its own angle.  And of course, overall perspective is sacrificed badly to fit all these things together...near the bottom of the frame, the perspective makes no sense at all (look at the left border of the road!) but like cubist stuff, it's more a collage of different perspectives.

/not an art student, but thinks that picture is cool

So this collage is located where?
Under that road there?
