Simple Wikipedia and Dwarf Fortress
« on: May 06, 2009, 05:43:44 pm »

Simple Wikipedia is a special subset of wikipedia which doesn't use big words. It tries to get information across without confusing the reader. However, it lacks a DF article.

I'd ask the community to help with me writing one, I have no wiki-fu, so I'm a bit lost.

Well, low-vocabulary or poor interpretation of complex language doesn't necessarily mean inability to learn how to play a complex game.

I think that is the main subset of simple wiki users. People who are not skilled in a language but are learning. Several news sites offer simple english articles.

Dwarf Fortress is a game in which the player controls a fortress of dwarves. There are also elves, goblins and cats. They must all be killed in horrendous fashion in order to gain the favor of Armok the god of blood.

How's that for a starter, despite being inaccurate in the latter parts?

No.

(Insert rude comment about how anyone who reads Simple Wikipedia couldn't even think about playing Dwarf Fortress.)
Simple Wikipedia is partially for people who are just not fluent in English.  It doesn't mean they're stupid, it usually just means that English isn't their first language.  (While, yes, there are Wikipedias for other languages, for languages that are not widespread the lack of users limits their growth.  The Simple English wikipedia helps people like that, whose primary language is not big enough to have a large wiki of its own.)

For honor and wenches! Incidently, you can answer any "why?" question with that, so long as your audience doesn't include women.

We could also write a wikipedia page for all thousand some wikipedia languages, but I thought that this would be a better idea.

You don't hang out with the right women, clearly.

Anyway as a Wikipedia fan, I still don't think DF is notable.  :x

It would make it easier for low-level-English speaking people to read about DF without too much effort.

That seems a just reason to me.
