Where have the avatars gone? (I'd like some tech help)
« on: May 11, 2009, 08:48:41 pm »

For the last two(?) weeks, the forums have been without avatars for me.  Its very strange, because they'll blink into existence for a moment while the page is loading, but once its fully loaded, the go away.  Now that, I think to myself must be the work of a mischievous javascript, and sure enough, when I clicked the big shiny disable javascript button and refresh the page, all the avatars are back!  So here I am, playing with this button.  Avatars go on, avatars go off.  Avatars go on, avatars go off.  So while it is amusing, its also slightly irritating and somewhat mysterious.

So, if all of you would be so kind to help me discover where this script could be located on my system, I would be very happy.  I would be even happier if I could figure out who put it on my computer in the first place.

And before you ask, it doesn't have anything to do with firefox extensions.

Look for .js files on your computer. That is the javascript file extension.

There's only about 200 of those...  Seriously though, if Firefox was loading a script from somewhere on my computer, where would it be?

Did you check the option in your profile to disable avatars?

Try loading bay12 games in a different web browser.

I don't know, since I am using IE, and I never ever had any problems with it.

I know you didn't mean it, but it sounded to me like the cheap trick Mac users do to Windows users.

Forget the fact that idiots use Windows and this is the reason it fails so horribly. (I have been using Windows all my life. My memory only goes as far as XP as far as it goes with problems. So I can safely say I never had any serious problems I wouldn't otherwise have on a mac with XP.)

A cheap shot against Firefox there.

But you've also missed the awesomeness of my avatars!

Hehe... ;D
Well I was absolutely serious. I never understood the "anti-IE" hysteria to be honest, since IE is working like a charm for me.

See, it's more like sticking it to the man with superior firepower.

IE is made by Microsoft. A corporation. IE is inferior to Firefox. Firefox is free and made by the people.

Basically, we're the good kind of communists. the kind that works.

Firefox is made by the Mozilla Corporation. IE is also free and made by people.

Life isn't black and white and good and evil. Microsoft isn't evil and Mozilla isn't holy.

Every person is different and should use the software that fits their own unique needs, and they should not be criticized because someone disagrees with them.

The day someone starts using a certain kind of software because of a philosophy or moral choice, is the day they forgot what computers are: Tools.

Except for Toady.  There's no downside to DF.
