Microcline: Once and For All
« on: May 14, 2009, 05:49:18 pm »

As above. Microcline is a non-economic, light blue rock that is brought up nearly as often as the only *other* light blue stone in the game. I'm sure we all have an opinion on it.

Personally, I'm fer it, dagnabbit. I like the color.

I like it, but I wouldn't mind having a little less of it in favor of more of other similar (differently colored) stones.

It's not that I don't appreciate having a variety of colors at my command, but they are quite an eyesore when used haphazardly, and the RNG is no artist by human standards.

So I'm mostly anti-microcline, but I don't completely hate it.

It annoys the hell out of me, but it's microcline, how could you be anti-microcline!?!

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

In real life, it looks really nice.  So pro.

The color scheme I use renders the blue a lighter than vanilla color, and thus does not hurt my eyes. On the contrary, it looks quite nice.

It's Orthoclase that sucks. Even with muted colors it looks terrible.

I voted anti-microcline, but I've changed it to be in small clusters rather than large and it's not nearly as annoying that way. So I'm pro-small-cluster microcline.

I love microcline. If I'm on a map with some, I'll always use it for lots of things. When I build temples to various gods in my civilization, one of them always has the light blue colour of microcline. I agree that orthoclase sucks though.

At first, striking microcline is scary, because for a split-second you think, "OH DEAR ARMOK!" Then you realize it's only microcline. ;D

I'm totally for it; it's the only material I've yet to find (and there's a lot of it TO find) that substitutes for that *other* cyan material. :P

I have noticed a rather mixed reaction with microcline, but what do people think of olivine?

Oh I love olivine.  I think dark green furniture makes the fortress tasteful.

I don't have too much of a problem with microcline, I just wish it appeared in smaller, rarer clusters.

The only stone that really chaps me is orthoclase.  Hate that stuff.

If the stuff came in long, winding veins or relatively small clusters (rather than the diningroom-wide aquamarine abominations we have today) I would be fine with microcline. Having the odd streak or splotch of color livens up a fortress... but wide swaths make me feel like I have a gaping wound in my side.

Microcline is the name of the God of Waste in my personal pantheon. Every artifact mug, two tile wide underground lake, and immigrant soapmaker is a thing born of and devoted to him. Truly he is a fearsome deity, second only to Armok.

I like olivine too, but I never get any of it. When I embark, I usually get microcline.

Opinions on alunite?
