Urban Rivals online card game
« on: May 17, 2009, 09:30:40 pm »

I being the type of person that I am, had my eyes caught by a TV tropes banner add. It led me to an interesting game called Urban Rivals (urban-rivals.com). The game seems to work good, with decent balancing (level limited rooms + fair bit of luck). It's fun.

Once I get myself to level 10, I'll be starting a guild for Bay 12. For now, I'm level 6.

You can find me in the second room right now. Obvious handle.

Card... game?
Online?

There's a serious contradiction going on here.

You get online cards. It's suprisingly fun, and easy to play while posting!

But... it's not a card if it doesn't exist.

We all are. We all are.

And I'll check it out, though it probably isn't my thing.

Meh. I think I came across this a while ago and dismissed it.

I've been searching desperately for an online card game where you can gain random cards (like in booster packs) without paying for them. An overall fee to play is fine (monthly fee, buying the game) but I'll be damned if I'm paying real money for jpeg images of cards.

I guess I'm really looking for something like PSO Episode III, only without the whole official-server-gone-permanantly-offline thing.

I guess all that is an aside. Though I didn't really check to see if this game is like that. I just browsed some of the card pictures and decided it was too ugly.  :-\ If you can collect cards for free I'll probably reconsider.

I have played this off and on for a while now:

http://www.poxnora.com/index.do

they sell the cards and booster packs, but you can also get pretty far with trading so you dont rally need to spend much. You can play the starter decks for free.

Online card games are a hell lot more fun than RL ones. Mostly because the comp handles all the calculations, the refereeing, and keeping track of life. And it tends to be cheaper too.. you could always buy the cards if you want, but you don't have to.

I play Urban Rivals, but only got to lvl 12 before getting too busy and the grind gets boring at lvl 12. Some of my friends are UR fanatics :P

It's an interesting strategy/luck/card/pokemon thing.
