A Dwarf in my Fortress just created a Legendary Helm. I hope that some day one adventurer may be worthy of wearing it.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

Anyone mind drawing this for me? I'm terrible at drawing even stick-figures, not to mention detailed characters.

Imagine the adventurer doing this as a mannish, muscular female. (that was essentially her look in-game, though I don't have a screenshot of her description)

I apologize, I read mannish as "I am in fact a male". Behold my post-it art.

Haha, that's fine. The face is amazing.

I'd love for someone who doesn't know anything about DF to look at it and try to guess the context. After playing DF for so long I see something completely normal.

Oh my gosh how was that made?  The picture, not the axe.

And now I'm thinking about how a bone axe doesn't faze me, but something resembling graphics does.  Thanks a lot, DF.

First I draw some sketches, think about how the different materials and the pictures on it could work together, how coult it be functional and how the appearance of the weapon could resemble the name of the weapon. Sometimes I even read about the craftdwarf so I can see better into the artist's mind.
Then I start working in photoshop. I draw the base lines and then make mono-colored fills at different layers for each materials with brush or with the polygonal lasso tool. Then I throw a bunch of adjustment layers on them to make them material-like and thing like these. When everything is finished I throw more adjustment layers to it to finetune the contrast and the saturation of the image.

Well shit, that's damn impressive then!

It's an artifake (dragon skulls are the same improved template as dragon bones: black, harder than steel, heavier too) but hey, you find yourself looking for something cool to draw check it out.

That description makes it sound like a legendary trophy weapon; every major foe you slay, you add another piece to it from whatever you killed.
