Well when I am playing my little tiny human man... I CAN NEVER SWIM UP!

I can swim to the bottom of the ocean, but never up.

I believe that would be called drowning. Basically you have to use alt+move in order to step into the water, otherwise you'll just sink and drown. It's tricky but once you get it you can swim for quite a while. I swam across an ocean just because I could.

Oh even if I walk into water, I can still swim down. BUT NOT UP!

Besides, if I'm a competent swimmer (Which would be around the level of a competitive swimmer.) I think I should be able to jump into water and FUCKING SWIM UP FOR FUCKS SAKE!

I wouldn't call myself anything past no-title swimmer but I fucking can!

Note, I DID take off EVERYTHING off my adventurer before trying this. He was swimming NAKED and STILL UNABLE TO SWIM UP.

So this rules out the "Too heavy" option.

Obviously what we need here is some sort of ingenious dwarvy solution. And like all Dwarvish solutions it shall involve booze, fire and copious blood loss.

Specifically we use the booze as a fuel to create a hot air balloon underwater. Also we drain some of your blood because it's obviously weighing you down.

Chubby blood.

I recently discovered you CAN swim up! While underwater, calmly receiving that flashing "Drowning" sign, press alt+numpad5 to move up or down!

On a slightly related note, my "draw my adventure" thing was about being encased in ice, not the inability to swim up, if that's where the topic originated.

WELL HOW FUCKING OBSCURE IS THAT?!

Using the "Descend" button works, using the "Ascend" button doesn't, but moving to the same spot carefully DOES?!

Hrm? I thought it was about always drowning if you fell into water. Anyway, once when I was swimming I Alt-Down'd, and then I started drowning and it wouldn't let me Alt-up. *shrug*

If you're using the keypad to control your character then alt+5 is the same as alt+up

It should be alt+Numpad8 to be the same as alt-up. 5 = stand on one place.

I was under the impression that anything that does not naturally survive in water doesn't know how to hold their breath.  So the moment one does not have open space in the z level above and are in 7 deep water, they immediatly begin drowning.

Once drowning all swimming skill is ignored.  And without swimming skill you are incapable of swimming upward, not even to climb back out of the water.

P.S. Of course I believe the comic in question was about the water flash freezing.

Somenoe should make a topic where all these vague controls are compiled, so everyone knows them.
I, for example have no idea how to wrestle. (You grab a part of their body, but then what?)
