Anacreon

Has anyone played this little masterpiece?

http://neurohack.com/anacreon/

I've sunk some hours into it over the last few nights and now I'm totally engrossed.  It's a very finely balanced space opera, as far as I can tell.  Aside from balancing supply line logistics (which are a huge point of the game) the process of economics, fleet building and planetary conquest are streamlined tasks which let the game move along very smoothly.  Micromanagers might be turned off at first, as I was, but you just might come to love it.

Just fill in the gaps with your imagination.  8)

Huh.  That sounds familiar but I swear when I played it like ten years ago, it was in ASCII...

I don't know if I liked it, but it was interesting!  Vaguely like a more thinky version of MOO, like a cross between MOO and, I dunno, Risk or something.  No ship design but in some ways, it was way more tactical.

The concept of the drug, Ambrosia, is also an interesting addition.  Addicting whole planets to some sort of super-futuristic crank has a twisted appeal to it...

Yes, it is an awesome little 4X game that arguably influenced every 4X game after it. It's too bad George Moromisato isn't really working on it anymore and has moved on to his game Transcendence

This looks really nice. It looks like there's some kind of e-mail multiplayer.
As soon as I figure this out, we're going to have to try a game.
I'm really enjoying the graphics of the DOS version.

What's this written in?

Anyone know how to make deep-space constructions? Like outposts?

Yes, we must absolutely play a multiplayer game of this, just once we can figure out how.  I know I'm having trouble connecting to the server...anyone else?

Woose, first you need the appropriate tech level to construct outposts and the like; from there it's a matter of dispatching fleets full of construction materials to the construction site (at least one sector distant from the nearest planet), and clicking 'start construction' at the location.

I highly recommend building industrial complexes, and keeping them hooked on ambrosia, if at all possible.  The output of those space monkeys reaches astronomical levels.

I played this game a little bit, but I hate micromanging. It's still a good game though.

Micromanaging game requires micromanaging. A couple UI tweaks to cut down on supply line designs would do wonders. Also, needs hotkeys.
