We have been visited by an elven caravan earlier than expected. We don't have too much to offer to them, aside from some nicely crafted mugs of my making. I am unsure how they feel about our massive wood stockpile though.
Anyway, we made a few simple exchanges. Not much; for a handful of mugs and our resident chef's special mule meat, and plump helmet stews, and a rope made of pig tail, we have obtained for ourselves a couple of bags of seeds, though they're more for above ground. Our resident farmer doesn't mind. And for any other purpose if needed, with that fine meal, we also managed to purchase some imported wine, a hoary marmot, and a grizzly bear. I feel the bear would make for excellent service protecting our project site. Plus, I personally find it rather cute. I feel I could relate to it well. There's not much else left to exchange that we hold interest in. The marmot may hopefully provide us with a litter of food, and the bear makes great security.
Thus far, we have made both our hometown as well as an elven caravan happy with my merchant skills.
More furnaces have been installed as well as plotted. So nobody would be stuck with seeing nothing but caverns, as well as to get used to looking out of windows in the future. I'm planning on getting some windows installed in the workshop with a nice view over the magma pipe. It'll double as security in case any imps escape; you know, seeing where they're headed. (I wonder where...)
Regarding the dry-dock; I have decided to construct an S-beam foundation. Realizing the mass of the project, and the time it would take before the boilers and the engines are in operation, This thing's gotta be sturdy. It is carved out the rest of the way, and construction is underway.
Good news, final-carpin-ly... We finally have our assistants. They decided to take the rugged route and trek over the tops of the nearby mountains. They'll be rather helpful in regards to building; but for now, it's hauling time. I interviewed them and learned that they heard we're a snazzy place. Heh, thanks Fikod, you're a real help.

It seems we may finally make some progress during the summer now, once all is acquainted with our setup.
We're gonna need some proper quarters now. Carp. A barracks will be underway in accordance to what may become a little bit of attention. Furthermore, we'll need a sheriff to keep watch over our workers. A poll will be taken as to who.

Behold, our new blood and forges.P.S.
I've managed to salvage some obsidian from the second magma forge area. I forgot to do that with the previous one.
Maybe I'll do something special with them. Maybe swords for swashbuckling in the future.
P.P.S.
Our mason has been a little odd lately. It's as if she's been possessed by something. Better not be those damn imps. I can't use the masonry workstation; she's occupied it, and has been working on something strange. She took I believe about 3 stones of basalt. I wonder what it is...
She just made a basalt hatch cover! She calls it Athelumid (Ringfall). On it explains the founding of this glorious site. But... Who IS this Olin Authorbridged?
I believe I found my assistant in constructing the foundation for the dry-dock.
