Mica (a stone) can be used like a gem in RL.  It is particularly useful as a replacement for glass in heat-resistant windows.  Perhaps this could have some bearing on magma facilities?  Once temperature has been fully implemented (and can affect moods/health), I would suggest that mica gain some use as a unique method of heat-proofing things. (if nothing else, windows)
