Traitorous foals! We're Under Attack!
« on: June 12, 2009, 09:05:44 pm »

My fortress is besieged: the human cavalry sit at the edge of the map sipping tea and laughing about how I'm surrounded.

An announcement:

Horse has given birth to horse foals.

Thinking this odd because I have only 1 horses: I check my Z status > Animals.
No hoarse foals.

I scroll over to the Human force, 12 Human Cavalry are retreating from a bunch of horse foals who neigh for their mares.  Occasionally they catch up and the humans are forced to fend off the attacking little horsies.

Update:  There's been a minor "Horse-splosion" 12 horse foals are waging a gorilla war against the human cavalry.  AKA they keep following their mothers while battling off the humans riding them.

If this doesn't belong in bugs, nothing does.

Nah, I could've sworn I've seen this reported before.

I think it falls under the problem with their mounts in general, like how they'll break the siege early for you by killing a few of them.

Fight back with cats.

Catsplosion vs. Horseplosion

Which will win? (Cats probably, because they can go nuclear.)

I wouldn't call that a bug so much as completely awesome. Pretty much something I would expect in this game.

The rebellious foals hate the oppression the man is putting on their families, so they fight back!

This game is so strange.
The horses have TEEN ANGST.

I was surprised when this happened in my goblin fort. I was cowering like a weenie when a few of their horses were captured in my cage traps. The foals they birthed were tameable, while the mares were not, so now I have a healthy horse population, where as before I had none.

Imagine if horses can wage gorilla warfare... Either they stampede gorilla into the line of enemy sight, or they fight like gorillas. Then again, they might also become gorillas upon a full moon.

Gorillmares...

Hey, I bred a Carippoparpimus. Anyone want me to breed a Gorillmare?

Perhaps gorillas fighting on horseback? Or horses fighting on gorilla back? Either way the possibilities are endless... and by endless I mean just those two scenarios...

Has anyone tried added flying mounts into the raws?  Something tells me that humans riding around on Eagles and goblins riding around on Giant Bats would be even more disasterous.

Why not just crossbreed as many horrifying creatures into one absolutely terrifying megabeast?

Like an Cepholarachniursacaripporillavikyroptimarelephant?

(Tentacled Spider-bear-carp-hippo-gorilla-avian-bat-horse-elephant)

I shudder at trying to render such a chimera, no less fighting such a thing.

If anyone has a copy of Spore, try making this sucker.

To make it more horrifying, skeletal or zombified. Run for your carping life; or have fun dealing with this thing. Emphasis on the word FUN.

I gave goblins and orcs wyvern mounts at one time.  The wyverns were large predator though, so they would actually not flee from other creatures like the horses do.  Unfortunately making siegers behave...sensibly.  None ever bred either during the sieges, so I don't know how that would work out.

As for effectiveness those buggers were pretty fierce.  They didn't fall prey to the flying pathfinding as often as I thought they would and they became quite a dangerous force.  Think a big greenskin with a crossbow riding on the back of a size 12 psudodragon with a paralyze poison stinger.
