Labelling levers and other triggers
« on: February 16, 2007, 10:04:00 am »

It would be EXTREMELY helpful if levers, pressure plates, and any future-added triggers could be labelled with the name of the object(s) they trigger.

This could be done automatically by the game (perhaps a 'go to target(s)' option), or manually by the user with a 'name this trigger' option.

I just went to my levers room, and couldn't remember at first which lever was for my farm floodgate, which for which of my bridges, and which for my flood-the-beseiging-goblins trap!

Thank you.

Best thing for now is to make your control room look like your fort. Dig channels, make ponds. And by all means keep a cheat sheet handy.  :)

Signs or labels would be most useful. Perhaps we get the engravers to carve a message on the wall or nearby flooring.

I never make a single control room.  I place individual control booths in strategic locations, one per floodgate system.  The lever closest to a floodgate controls that floodgate. =)

Actually, it would be nice if engravings could be specified letters.

'F' by the farm lever
'D' by the main door lever
'M' by the magma lever, and so on.

multiple tiles could create words on the walls.

i would also like this to NUMBER my apartments! =D

Or if you could just name levers.

Have a list of what the lever is hooked up to and zoom in on the spot as you go down the list.

It might be a tad discouraging to the immigrants to pass by the level marked "Drowning Room" on their way to the "Welcome Center".  ;)

I have a couple of control rooms normally.
I have a master control from for offensive and defensive magma and water gates, a local sub-control for bridges, and a farm sub-control for farm floodgates.

I am thinking about consolidating all my farm levers into one lever however, simply because I am a tiresome pedant.  :)

Or two levels, each controlling all the gates.  Flip them both once for a good covering of flood mud.  :)

You guys have multiple levers?  I just make one lever for everything.  I pull it and all my bridges raise, doors lock, and floodgates open.  Pure simplicity at it's best!

I suppose it could work for some forts but I'm not sure I would like to flood my farm and activate my volcano when I use the drowning room.

You let them past the drowning room?
