Walls and floors, save some time building them?
« on: April 30, 2008, 03:35:00 pm »

Wouldn't it be fine and dandy to allow walls and floors to be built something like roads? It would save tons of time, in my opinion, and prove to be much less of a hassle rather than pressing the same b->C->f combo again and again.

That's a classic suggestion.

Weeelll, while they don't have that, if you press B-c-f, then max out the road length and width.

The only problem with that being that roads can only be built on ground, while floors (and walls) are used to create ground.

what would be immediately helpful would be if you could choose the structre and material type and then just plop along dropping a single tile only having to hit enter for each tile placed until you run out of available resources

Personally, I love that idea!

And just to keep my suggestions in the same thread, what if you were sieged with-in your own fortress via Kobolds tunneling into it?

I don't think kobolds are able to do that (goblins, neither). In soft ground, it might succeed (but their tunnels would be collapse-prone). Dwarves are the master miners anyway. Then it would also give an incentive to put everything deep enough underground to put a few layers of rock between your fort and the infestation. With these limitations, yes please.
