What affects the chancwe of someones melee attack being countered?

I'd guess it depends on the defender's Martial Arts skill.

Just assuming it works the same as DF.

Also it's very important that the original attacker is fighting in melee, as opposed to with a firearm.

We are not liberal gods, unfortunately. We cannot turn bullets. Not even the Agents, who seem to be the ones from The Matrix, cannot dodge bullets.

1. How skilled the target is with using their current weapon in melee. If it's a gun, that's the club skill.
2. How skilled the attacker is with using their current weapon in melee. So if you're very skilled with a sword, you'll be countered less often than if you're a blind man in a wheelchair.

I like the way you can kidnap most people on a date using a guitar by holding it to their throat.  I'm imagining someone so terrified of bad guitar playing that they're prepared to face an uncertain fate after being kidnapped.
