Neighbour lends a hand!

Recently a snatcher got chased by one of my dwarves, unfortunately his legs were too long and he almost got away.
Several tiles from the edge of the map a rogue macedwarf shows up, knocks him senseless and promptly leaves again.

My ally is not visible on the map, nor by [v], nor on the roster. So is unlikely to be a lingering immigrant.

So...has anyone seen this happening on occasion too?

I had the swordsman from a human convoy hang around at the edge of my map for a few seasons.

That sounds possible.  I had a human caravan wiped out by goblins one time, and three of their soldiers got confused during the retreat and wandered around my map for a full year, before serving as early warning and appetizer for another ambush.

Maybe it was just one of the Fortresses Gods appearing before his worshiper. This fortress seems to have a xenophobic effluence of dwarf shaped deities.
