EDIT: Should have been clearer, I meant the fact they use semi-modern weaponry and not crossbows, not that they are Russian.

Yeah... if dwarves aren't demigods, they're Russian. If they aren't Russian, then they're Norse. So on and so forth.

Anyway, you could make just about whatever mountable. With a little biome and animal use manipulation, you can make sure the right civs end up with the right mounts.

Hehe, I go into my raws every time, and add the [PET] tag to ALL non-vermin animals, and the [trAINABLE] tag to all non-weak animals. Deer, hoary marmots, etc... get to stay out of the military.
