You know, it recently occurred to me that Alternian romance (and kismesis in particular) while alien, is not nearly as alien as the author makes it out to be.

Examine, for instance, the lyrics of the song "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga, really examine them, notice the repetition of the phrase "I want your love and all your love is revenge"...

...uh, there was going to be more to this comment, but I kind of lost track of everything I was going to say because there was too much of it and I can't remember how all the points I was going to make fit together; Something about sadomasochism and the death instinct, Lady Gaga's insights into horror films, some kind of tangent aboutthe ending of the short story The Theologians by Jorge Luis Borges (which also deals with cyclic time as well), and I'm too tired to fit it all together.

Dont know if this has been posted before, but if any of you are into DnD 4e or Gamma World, you should take a look at the HomestuckRPG made my umbralAeronaut. Really fun.

No shit? :) Look up "Foe Yay" on TVTropes, if you dare. There's a long-standing tradition on shipping people with their archnemeses. There's also nothing new about the whole concept of interpersonal conflict as a positive growth-inducing force.
