They were prototyped into Tavriska yeah, but after they/it exploded they're dead again.  Blank eyes, complaining about being dead, being stalked by Hussie across a dream of Tavros's exploded planet...

The dunes from LoSaZ and the compass roses from LoMaT, it's clear whose memories these are. Hussie, is John finally going to learn about Vriska, or are you just messing with us again? I ship JohnxVriska, and I'm fairly certain that what's going to happen to John next will make me cry. Whether those will be tears of happiness or sorrow is still uncertain.

Yeah, I've got that feeling too. And I don't even really ship, much less ship John with Vriska.
The whole situation has just got that feeling of vague depressingness.

Do dead characters still have to "look" at things as if they had normal eyes, or do they now absorb imagines evenly, without the effects of peripheral vision, in a conical shape in front of them?

They see in an overhead square around themselves. Unfortunately, this means objects such as ground level chests are easily hidden, but such is the price of being a ghost.
