they probably do, as like a holdover. I doubt the drone is too old, evolution-wise.
Before buckets were invented, the incestuous slurry was stored in natural pools in the vast caverns of Alternia. Young trolls would dare each other to swim in them. The Mother Grub would keep track of the trolls who, without going into too much detail, deposited their genetic material into the "gene pool", and send the DRONE to kill those who wouldn't.

Well, Karkat's movie posters suggest sexual dimorphism, but considering the troll mutation rate, that might not mean anything either. Perhaps about half of all actors are raised by mammary worms.

Every young pupa dreams of Will Smith gracing their entrance to the world as they emerge from the Cave of Trials. That Wiggling Day is the best day of their lives.

Also, it seems there is another troll that wants to get into Vriskas pants have a red relationship with Vriska.

Why? She has the best workings for a black relationship and nothing to grant for a red one. Her ideal of a red relationship is paralyzing her victim and moving in for the kill. Whargle...

I suppose Troll culture is closer to Human culture than we thought.

Actually, I saw that as he wanted to be arch enemies with vriska (kissmesis?)
and he wants to redrom CC.

she apparently doesn't see any of that though.

Yeah, Calignious romance also involves getting into people's pants. Eridan and Vriska used to have a pretty bad vengeance going on, but they kind of drifted apart.

Are we still dumping other people's fan art here?

It occurs to me that Eridan's situation is perfect romantic comedy material.

Unrequited feelings, love in high places, failing relationships based on hatred and antagonism. Flawed men who will change their ways, if only they had the right woman.

All it needs now is the impetus to set all the drama into motion.

The Apocalypse does have a good way of resolving all those thorny romantic questions.  After all, when there's only twelve of you left, well you gotta make a choice eventually.

Wasn't it implied that the trolls are an intergalactic civilization, and that all the fully grown trolls are just chilling out in space or something? Couldn't that come into play somewhere?

Well, only if they manage to protect their matriorb. The fact that they're angry and doomed in what passes for "present" around these parts kind of suggests they didn't. Maybe they used it to create themselves or something, who knows. Anyway, that would mean that there are twelve trolls left and none of them can gestate. No wonder they're pissed off.

Although, with all the alchemical equipment, one wonders if they'd be able to make a new one. Dave didn't have any problems with getting a captchalogued ghost image of himself, which would (possibly?) let him create a clone army of Daves provided he had the grist for it. And all the trolls presumably defeated their denizens and got their hands on the huge grist hoard and ULTIMATE ALCHEMY, whatever that is.

...Could Jade alchemize herself a new dream self? :o

Missed this just now. The trolls are at least space-faring, but I think it's kind of implied that Sgrub destroys their species. I'm guessing that all the Mother Grubs are on Alternia. Just like Enders Game. Either that, or their Veil has enough meteors and Skaia enough portals to hit every Alternian battleship. All of them.

Aradia didn't think so, Kanaya thought it was worthwhile to save a Matriorb, and Sollux was torn over whether they were all doomed.  My understanding from all the hints about events tied to the end of the universe was that "Lord English" was going to do just that after that program "summons" him.  Not just Skaia destroying Alternia to protect itself, but the whole Troll universe coming to an end.
