40d13 Magma Forge anvil
« on: August 15, 2009, 02:52:51 am »

My mamga forge just allowed me to select iron anvils (which don't count as magma safe) so long as I had a steel one in inventory.

I'm using Civilization FOrge and the Orc Mod

According to the regular vanilla temperature scale on the wiki:
Smeltpoint of Magma -> 12,568°     2,600 °F     1,427 °C
Smeltpoint of Iron     -> 12,768°     2,800 °F     1,538 °C

So although not specificly mentioned it should be magma-proof considering it is quite a difference.
And besides, you can also build the structure from all kinds of material, from which all available stones except bauxite is not magma-proof.

If you only have Iron anvils, you can't build a magma forge. It tells you that you need a magma-safe anvil.

That's odd, iron anvils are magma-safe.

Maybe one of your mods changed the temperature values for iron?

Perhaps you're thinking of the old 2D version, where a magma forge had to be built using steel bars. In the current version, all you need is an anvil (of any material, though you generally only get them made out of iron or steel) and a fire-safe building material (i.e. pretty much anything but wood, possibly also excluding bituminous coal, lignite, charcoal, coke, and graphite).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I'm quite sure i couldn't build it before I stole a  steel anvil.

Are you certain you're playing the 3D version, then? Did you have a spare iron anvil when you tried to make the magma forge?

THe only anvil I had was sitting in the wagon. I could build a conventional forge, but not a magma one.

If there's not a path from the anvil to the place you want to build the forge, it would give that error message I think.
