How to free a captured dwarf?
« on: September 03, 2009, 11:39:24 pm »

One of my dwarves went frenzied in a goblin attack and was captured in my own cage trap while running around. How do I free him? I tried placing him in a zoo or jail and deassigning the cage from him. I also tried to assign an animal to the cage but no one is coming to release him. It's a wooden cage, btw.

Build the cage, build a lever, attach the cage to the lever, pull the lever.

You don't need to build a lever. Build the cage, go to assign, and unassign the dwarf.

He already tried that.  Trust me, what I said is the way to do it.

Also, have some military and a coffin ready

EDIT: or sell him to the human caravan

I suggest you set him to be pitted. If possible, right into his tomb.

Otherwise, the lever+cage thing works

Annoyingly, you cannot pit a dwarf, even if it's from an enemy civilization.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

You can with my way of pitting dwarves, which is basicly the lever thing but then with the cage placed on a support which is also connected to the lever.

Works for everything else you want to pit without dwarves touching it.
