i embarked on a badlands map with the foot hills of a mountain in the edge when i noticed that there were some lungfish jumping around
where did they come from there is no water on my map

Are they undead? Otherwise, it could be that water dried up upon embark.

they are not undead and there was never any water to begin with this is only the first year on this map

It could be the river/ponds on the other side,I've had lungfish on ground tiles when I struck into an underground river

I mean, even DF ones.

EDIT: The have the [AMPHIB] tag and [IMMOBILE_LAND], which according to the raws forces them to beach themselves on occasion.

Not that I care.

However, [AMPHIB] would do it. Maybe they crawled all the way there, because I don't think the game takes those tags into account until the player is there.

lungfish can survive on land, and the game only looks at tags on embark

The [AMPHIB] tag allows animals to survive in both air and water. The game has illogical animal-tracking where animals that can survive in air sometimes "migrate" away from home. Bingo, problem solved. Now then, butcher the fish and have a feast, dwarven style! 8)

there is an underground pool or river in that mountain. I once couldnt find the Pool on my map, then noticed one of the peeks was covered in Olms, it turned out that the peek was nearly hollow and filled with watter and giant olms (and a few lizard and snake men whom i killed)

It does not matter if there is no water. What happened is the fish crawled out there and then you looked at them and they realized they couldn't move on land. DF runs on belief.
