In the end, when I imagine axolotl-men and olm-men, the olm-men are way scarier, quite possible wearing black robes.  The axolotl just look too cute to be menacing, and when it comes down to me watching my dwarves getting eaten, I want to imagine menacing things.

The most dangerous foe is the one you don't fear.

This thread makes me happy. I has two axolotls, a golden one named Apollo,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And a black one named Axel,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'd like to say they are friends but all they do is sit in opposite ends of the tank.
I feed them strips of liver (in the shape of a worm), live worms, baby guppies that are overpopulating our other fish tank, some times tadpoles and chunks of special axolotl food. The are quite vicious with the live food, swallowing it whole without even killing it first.

Guh? I didn't know you could keep 'em as pets!

...

Well, if you can have axolotls, then I want an olm!

I didnt know either, since they are endangered, but apparently there is an established business of breeding them in captivity. Part for pets, part because there's quite a bit of interest on how they regrow limbs.

(I found out they were for sale as pets when I saw one in a shop about... six months ago)

www.axolotl.com is a good place to start if you're interested in pet axolotls.

You realize you just made up the greatest mod ever.

Magmalotl: Just like fire snakes, but they're an axolotl made of magma.
Hammerolotl: They have dense, heavy, hammer-like appendages.

Giant Magmalotl: More dangerous, non-vermin magmalotl.
Giant Hammerolotl: Vicious hunter.

Magmalotlmen: similar to fire/magmen and fire imps.
Hammerolotlmen: They will beat you to death with their hammery appendages.
