Dwarf Fortress Talk #3: Topic Vote
« on: September 09, 2009, 05:33:42 am »

Here are the topics up for next time as suggested by Rainseeker, who asks you to look to the left of the colons for what we'd actually be talking about.

The vote will be closing in twelve days (on the morning of the 21st) to give us some time to prepare and to give you some time for reaction to the topic choice prior to the recording.

Oh, goody! These topics are even better than the last ones!
Can't wait to hear you guys blather about them.

My vote is for the animal-men underworld stuff.
I want to hear about history too, but we've already gotten a bit of that.

Edit: I want to trade with a city of llamamen!

I voted for The Mysteries of the Underworld:  Animal-Men Kingdoms and I don't care how furry that makes me.

History generation is pretty predictable stuff after a few worlds at this point, and rare outcomes like 10 humans killing 200 elves in defense of their town are oddly common, so I wouldn't mind to see how the history will become more varied, less strange, and hopefully integrate into the actual player timeframe more.

I went for Trades, since those don't typically come up in interviews and are way overdue for an overhaul.

I voted for the mysteries of the underworld..There's a lot of animal-men, so there is a lot to talk about..Well, if they are all different in other ways besides name.

Besides that, "Mysteries of the Underworld" just sounds like something a dwarf would want to hear about.

I voted trades. While world gen is interesting, it seems to be working fine, and the creatures of the underworld rarely bother me since I usually build plains fortresses instead of mountain forts. The economy, however, has always seemed woppy to me seeing as a dwarf can, with no tools, produce stone mugs worth 10x as much as the raw materials every time. One legendary stonecrafter can buy out every single caravan every year, which is just ridiculous, and I'd like to hear Toady's viewpoint on this.

I did make a vote, but then reading this thread made me remove it, and then I couldn't decide were to put it instead...

Voted trade.

I wanted to know the interactions between civilization entities.

Addendum: That isn't just war...

Underground Kingdoms, here. It's something new and quite frankly something I think will make the vanilla DF seem like much more of a fantasy game. I love the idea of digging down into a mountain, building your fortress, then all of a sudden it's: Oh God! Giant Batmen Kingdom! Then, from above ground, Goblin Siege! I don't know, the whole idea I just plain like. If there are underground kingdoms, does this mean there will be underground caravans?

I got the impression trade was more focused on production paths in the fortress.  If it's broader economy scale, I'll have to change my vote.

As it stands I'm all about world gen.  I'd love to hear plans for how the army and trade arcs are going play into getting us unique worlds with unique stable systems at play-start.

Hmmm, I think we may need a word for 'when worldgen stops and play begins'

Hell  Other than the army arc and trade arc, what systems do you see coming into play to create unique power structures during worldgen

All of them, but I voted world gen, since thats one of the features of DF that intrigues me the most.  When I'm bored I often gen a world and read that legends, there are some hilarious things in it.  I love the names they give weapon stores.
