metalworking: currently sign
« on: September 16, 2009, 04:14:02 pm »

So I'm in an ornamental ironwork class and weve got a project to make a sign hanger (and sign?). I decided I wanted to throw this out to see what ideas one might have for this, I'd rather this not be some boring sign.

Looks pretty sturdy. If you want an exciting idea, make the supporty part an upright rectangle. On the top bar, have the sign be a hollow metal cylinder with 4 squares (the actual sign part) welded onto it in the cardinal directions. Slide the cylinder over the top bar of the rectangle before you weld the other two sides on. Then, you can put 4 different signs on it and rotate them to display the different ones.

Or you could add a motor and make a helicopter.

Who cares, as long as you leave enough room to have a picture of it on it

This is for the main decorations, two shapes simply cut out of a sheet of metal, not shown here is that there shuld be a beam or other structural support of some kind along/over/[preposition] that main horisontal thingy you see there.

Christ man, great design. I'm not sure if he'd let us "newbies" use that much metal though, that would be alot of work with the plasma cutter. I might try for the design for the part that connects to the wall but I'm not sure I could do the rest of it lol. I know someone else in my class is doing like a cheresh cat type thing, I'd like to see how that turns out.
