You aren't going to like this, but I would suggest having all third evolution pokemon be semi-megabeasts. Possibly make them tameable, but that would give you a good mix of mega, semi-mega, and regular monsters to populate your world with.

You have a point. I reckon not ALL the third-evolutions. After all, Pidgeot is hardly that much of a beast, where as Gyarados is a much nastier candidate for semi-megabeast.

Or, I could just let Gyarados be as common as Magikarp, and watch the fun as it flies out of your streams at your fortress (Flying/Water type, remember~?)

Anyways, I'll be gone for the weekend.

Too bad you can't do the metamorphosis stuff right.  A river full of Magikarp suddenly becoming Gyrados would be amazing.

Make some more experienced and/or older 3rd gen Pokemons as semimegabeasts, and leave the normal ones as normal creatures.

Starting Fortress mode, check! The list doesn't seem to include Bulbasaur, Weedle, Metapod or Beedrill. It might just be an area/race (goblins this time) thing.

Another way to check - start legends mode, press p: export map and gen info. Then open 'region#-world_sites_and_pops.txt' in DF folder. All creatures listed here so you can check if your creatures exist in world and how many of them there.

I tried doing something like this WAAAAAAYYYYYY back when and got bored and gave up.  Though I just went through the raws 1 by 1 and replaced the creature with the relevant pokemon.

I hope you have more luck than I did.  If my old half finished version is still on the DFFD(unlikely and I'm at school so don't have time to check. It was called Pokemod) feel free to use any of the stuff I already put together.
