I'm watching Firefly for the first time. On episode 5, but so far loving it. I thought people didn't like this?

There was a huge outcry that it didn't continue, and kinda had a short run.  The movie helped though.

Yeah no I've heard it's fucking incredible and the only thing people got super mad about was the lack of continuation.

The people who hated it were the FOX executives. They did a bunch of things seemingly tailor-made to kill the show, including:
- Airing it on Friday, which is when everybody is out at the bar/movies/sporting events, causing bad ratings
- Showing the episodes in the wrong order
- Rescheduling episode premiers for sports
- Canceling the show after 11 episodes were shown

Afterward, the show was released on DVD and became a cult classic, with the tie-in film Serenity coming out after the show was cancelled.

I was sort of underwhelmed by the fact that they made the guns go laser pew-pew instead of plain blam-blam, but in every other aspect I loved the show. I really dig western vibes combined with space opera.

Yeah this, it's one reason I love Borderlands so much.  (Especially 2, which left 1 in the dust story-wise)

Yeah, Firefly was something really special. It all just came together so well.

The movie can go ass a dumpster, though. I did not like it at all, it completely failed to live up to the example set by the episodes.

Is there no hope of a revival, then? Surely Fox can see big dollar signs over it by now, if it really is that popular....
