God damn, I was a star tonight!
We'd been invited to a halloween party at a friend's place, and I had a somewhat last-minute costume discussion with a couple of my friends (the ones who did me up as a gay pirate for Pride earlier this year) while we tried to figure out what I should wear. Partway through, the one friend disappeared off into her room for a bit before coming back with a bundle of clothes.
Friend: "Here, try this on."
So I did. And through the magic of elastic, I somehow managed to squeeze into a Women's Small costume (it was more than a
bit ill-fitting, but that kinda lent itself to the charm in a way). We giggled a bit. And then we plotted a bit. And then accessorized a bit.
And that, gentlemen, is how I went to a party yesterday dressed as Harley Quinn (or Hardly Quinn, as we've grown to term the ensemble).
The party itself was... A bit lackluster, to be quite frank. There was plenty of room for all the guests, but the furniture arrangement was such that everyone quickly split into 3-4 small groups and then proceeded to stay incredibly insular the entire time.
But later on, we went out on the town... Saturday night, in a bar. Hardly Quinn. Good
lord that got a lot of attention.
Beyond just the hilarious looks and glances of everyone when I entered the place, I also got
- Asked for a photo-op
- Told by someone that I was their new idol and inspiration
- Warmly invited to sit at a table full of complete strangers
- Hit on by a gay guy
- Hit on by a married woman
- Celebrated and fawned over by a very drunk lady at the kebab stand who demanded a hug (much to the chagrin of her chaperone who was trying to rein her in)
- The horrified stares of everyone working the kebab stand (all of whom I've met and talked with before)
Talked with some good friends, nerded out about DnD, frightened someone in the bathroom... All in all, a very successful night!
