But donkey isn't vegetarian
Says who? You?
The prime minister of vegetarians?
He just wants to keep all the vegetarian donkeys to himself!

While on the topic of food rolls, I made excellent greekrolls with my homemade not-halloumi last week. They weren't vegetarian either, but they were certainly vegetarian!

I made burritos last night. I'd been talking with one of my favorite bartenders about vegetarian dishes as he's a veggieman himself, and I know from experience that he's terrible at feeding himself properly, so I decided to pack a few up and bring them down.

Needless to say, people don't generally expect to have someone drag a cooler bag of burritos into a bar and start handing them out... The reactions were quite entertaining.

But not only were folks happy to receive free food, they also gave very high praise for the quality of the contents. The bartender, who considers himself something of a burrito connoisseur, said it ranked in his top 'ritos of all time. Another random gal at the bar claimed status as "A major foodie" and was quite surprised that I'd made the things myself, as a hobbyist... She thought I worked as a cook or something and had taken them along from work.

I'm pretty sure that, as with many things, the amount of alcohol everyone had consumed beforehand played a part in their appreciation of the handiwork, but it's still very nice hearing stuff like that.

Man, you just reminded me this guy existed. He would create 2 similar foods from different cultures, take them down to his local, and get them to judge which was better. Among other weird engineers/scientists get up to in their free time.

I have to say, when I saw the title of that article, I expected it to be an American way of spelling Poitín, which is a very, very illegal and very, very alcoholic drink which was made in Ireland for a very long time and probably still is. I was expecting at least one Person to go blind as a result of the competition, and I’m very disappointed now.

You mean potcheen, mate. :P

(And it definitely still is. It's also legal, though historically associated with illegal stills and the like.)

Apparently, nowadays eating donkeys is vegan... at least, depending on the diet and hygiene standards of the owner of said ass.

That's kind of like... Irish vodka?

Stronger. I knew someone who home brewed what I now assume was Poitín. It destroyed his liver, and killed him in the end.

The strength varies, as does the definition of what constitutes potcheen - as a traditionally unregulated act of creation, much is a matter of opinion.

A loose attempt at indicating strength would be anything from your typical vodka strength to much, much stronger.

It depends on two things -.
Whether or not its creation is regulated,
And, if not, what the mad-hatter who made the stuff threw in there.

Edit: it's not a replacement for moonshine, but its history and current usage conforms greatly.

It's all about what's in the pot XD

The US equivalent is Appalachian Moonshine.

The "safe" commercial equivalent is Everclear

It is literally as close to pure ethanol as you can get using distillation.

You both make very good points. Either way I’m glad I never tried any of it.

Here’s some trivia, though: A few Families would get together to build the Ovens they used to make the stuff on the bounrdies of each others’ land, so that the ownership could be disputed, and the Police wouldn’t be able to say who actually owned it, when they were almost always sharing its use.
