My very favoritest was the one that said Pikachu was in fact derived from descriptions in the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and therefore was deliberately tantamount to worshiping said deities.
Ah yes, the good ole Satanic Panic of the 90s

All I can summon after playing DND is whiskey hangovers and new dm restrictions

I think the whiskey is the only reason I'm invited, but whatever.

Ah yes, the good ole Satanic Panic of the 90s

That was the 80s. The panic was well and truly dead by the 1990s.

https://www.vox.com/2016/10/30/13413864/satanic-panic-ritual-abuse-history-explained

By the 1990s, you could be Marylin Manson and people were just "meh" by that point.

The real history is that some books published around 1980 really kicked off the satanic panic, the media really picked it up, and there were a number of high-profile court cases against "satanic" day care workers.

These court cases mostly imploded because the claims were highly improbably, bordering on fantastical / magical. Like, the teacher flushed you down a toilet into labyrnthine secret tunnels under the daycare center where they have elaborate dark rituals (somehow cleaning you up and having you ready to be picked up at 4pm like normal), and that the teachers could turn into witches and fly. So things like Dark Dungeons where there's a school-teacher-ish woman who uses D&D to get kids into the occult and there's some hidden altar with people in robes - a significant number of people in the 1980s thought this was real fact and not any sort of exaggeration. If you can believe that teachers have magical toilets that can flush kids down into a secret underground satanic tunnel system then you can believe just about anything.

And this level of bullshit gradually eroded the panic, and the media started to become highly skeptical, so the panic ended around the late 1980s. You can't have a panic unless the media plays along.

I mean if I was a satanic wizard that's the kind of thing I'd make.

I didn't know the satanic panic originated from something like that. It kind of puts the hysterical fear a bit into perspective, doesn't it.
