The P-zombie is a special condition.

It behaves *EXACTLY* like a normal person.  But isn't.

NORMAL HUMANS don't think about giving the self-checkout machine at the grocery rights
Not the checkout machines, AIs. If we make a machine that can think for itself, it should have rights. If the machine has no thoughts, it can’t suffer

But what about a P-human? Something that externally appears not to have any internal experience, but actually has. For example, the average DF player sitting nearly completely still quietly, staring at a screen of incomprehensible symbols, all the while plotting all sorts of nefarious plans.

Wait, you want (actual) AI, so it can suffer? Hmm.

I don’t want AI to suffer. I mentioned creatures with thoughts had the chance of suffering, if they are given rights, the rights will prevent them from suffering. Creatures with thoughts deserve rights

Wouldn't the test for the p-zombie be against the things that aren't testing it? That is, the indifference of time and nature? I mean, that all those internal qualities that make up the internal consciousness actually just pragmatic things that allow for survival in the long term? One can respond to stimuli, but being planning long term against an unforeseeable future and using one's imagination require an internal life. I'd think, atleast.

I have thoughts and I suffer.

I think it would be unethical to make an AI anyway, and subject it to the suffering of existence.

Question: is causing a child to be born thus unethical?

This is not a discussion I ever hoped to witness.

Least of all in the happy thread.

While existence involves suffering, it can also involve good experiences. Most people agree it’s bad to treat people like property. I don’t think creatures that can think should be treated as property. Don’t treat someone like crap just because their body might be different. Just because someone might not think exactly like you doesn’t mean they should be treated like less than you. Why does this suddenly become different when we are dealing with nonhuman entities with their own thoughts?

Question: is causing a child to be born thus unethical?
Dad here: The answer from my perspective is both yes and no. Why? There are a lot more states in the world than suffering. Is it unethical to deny the creation of knowledge, music, poetry, art, engineering, and euphoria?

Are you taking it into a restaurant, airplane, or other small area where I have to be subjected to it?

Yes either way, but more if your answer was yes.
