Dunno, liberal stronghold sexism? I'm still in Silicon Valley, and I feel like it's a staple of a certain kind of fedora-flavored nerd culture (obviously there are many different forms of nerd cultures, and there are many fedora wearers who are not sexist. Sorry, Im just a "oil mexican" caveman, but I really fail to grasp how or why anyone outside a scientific or otherwise specific enviroment (like a news reporter saying "female suspect") would use the word females to describe a group of human females instead of the term ladies or woman. I fail to see how that would be despective in anyone mind or why somebody would be as stupid to try to employ as an insult without looking like a total idiot.

I was military, and Im used to refering to people as male or female.  Its a pronoun.  I do 'maim' and 'sir' a lot more often though.
