I got my new 1TB SSD and a SATA-to-USB cable. I've already cloned my old SSD onto it, then installed it into my laptop.

The cloning was fairly standard; just booting into Clonezilla to clone the entire SSD, then a trip into Lubuntu (which was the lightest thing that offered a fallback video mode in the boot menu; damned proprietary drivers) to use KDE Partition Manager (which is basically just GParted) to expand the resulting partition to the full 1TB.

I could've saved some time by skipping Clonezilla, going straight into Lubuntu (or better, Arch), and using dd to clone, but that's sorta the hardcore way of doing things. One wrong parameter, and any of the following could've happened: I could've wiped my old SSD (bad, but recoverable), wiped my boot drive by accident (catastrophic), or cloned the old SSD to the boot drive (also catastrophic). I'll take the time loss over risking any of those.

Got my uni essay mark back and somehow got the highest mark for an assessment so far, was convinced I'd barely scrape a pass so idk what happened. Given my tutor's comments on the 'clear and logical writing style' I'm half convinced they were reading something else entirely.

But still, good!

Just had a good day playing the Isle. Managed to grow a giga to nearly adult and raise several babies to high juvie and even a couple to subadult. It was a nice change from the days of being eaten while still a juvie myself.  :D

I beat a hard boss in Fae Tactics, the hardest one yet, took me 5+ tries. Who was he? Just a rat man guarding his pile of garbage.

I also got the itch to play some Witness today, a game I haven't touched in years. Starting up a new game, I'm re-astonished at how obscenely clever the game is in plating the puzzles for my consumption. It's infuriating how great these simple puzzles are, whipping my ass until I finally get that epiphany that makes everything click.

I have determined that one CAN indeed, safely make boiled eggs in the microwave.

Process:

Fill styrofoam cup 50% with hot water. Add 1tsp salt. Microwave on high until water boils.
Add 1 to 3 eggs, or as many will fit in the cup without emerging from the water.
Return to microwave, then microwave for 5 minutes on 50% power.

That is probably true for ANY plastic.

You are correct that polystyrene cups leach styrene monomer into hot fluids.

However, you are probably getting just as much, if not more, styrene exposure from carpets, printed paper that has gone through a laser printer or photocopier, plastic water bottles, and the insulation in your walls.

Also, you are not drinking the water; you are using it to boil the eggs, which have both a shell, AND a skin membrane, that you peel off and discard.

a) You don't make tea with your egg water?
b) You don't eat eggs with the skin on??

1) certainly not.
2) The egg is much easier to de-shell, if you leave the skin attached to the shell.  It peels off in sheets that way.

On the eggs I eat, the skin is stuck to the shell so I can't leave it on, really.

Yeah, I'm in a whimsical mood. But people who peel their eggs are still nearly as pusillanimous as people who peel their apples.

They're talking about hardboiled eggs, I think.
