Since about 20 minutes, Facebook's services are offline in the Netherlands. WhatsApp is offline, Instagram is offline, and Facebook itself is gone dark as well.
Various international media besides my Dutch newspaper are reporting similar issues in their countries.

What a nice breather of fresh air for the world. I hope we can enjoy a long time without social media.

Probably not though, they'll probably resolve the matter quickly.

Facebook itself has not yet reported the blackout.

EDIT: Facebook has used Twitter to communicate that 'some users' are having problems reaching it's services.
In reality, most of the world can not access it.

Yep. Earlier I found facebook was down and then whatsapp was down too.

Found out because my wife started texting me instead of sending me whatsapps.

Every time FB is down I hope it won't come back up... Besides that one foto with a lemur on my shoulders my ex made I care about nothing on that site.

I would miss WhatsApp to be honest. For it being a free means of communication. I cannot afford paid for text messaging or telephone calls.

EDIT: Ryan Mac, tech journalist of the NYT, reports based on conversations with employees that Facebook's internal systems are down as well. "no one can do any work at all".

Dayum, this is a long downtime. The Verge at first thought this to be a DNS issue, but if their internal systems are down too, it reeks more like a ransomware attack. I wonder how many billions or trillions they are asking.



If Twitter goes down as well, better find a bomb shelter. That's most likely how WW3 will start.. Taking down social media and other means of easy mass communication.

So, maybe drag will not be able to retrieve the pic, but dont worry, lemurs will go extinct alongside mankind. Or maybe inherent the earth and develop super intelligence from the radiation.

If this is a malware attack of some kind it will be a new water mark, and probably something with inside people. If not flawless executed people will go to jail or worst. The ransom would be without precedent too, and highly unlike to be paid anyway.

On the other hand, there are some people that just want to see the world burn.

On the gripping hand (quite fittingly) watch out  for any "wishing stars" you migth see at daylight and have your iodine pills handy.

Tiktok also is failing in several coutries it seems. It migth be part of the same attack? Are the associated with facebook? Its such a shitty thing it seems like it. If not is either an opportunistic attack or part of something bigger and coordinated.
