I had Smirnoff Tuscan Lemonade. It's like they didn't even try. I swear they just put lemon-lime Gatorade in 40p Popov.

What about this?

The sentence below this is a lie.
The sentence above this is truthful.

... I don't think I'm equipped to understand that concept.

It's a "strange loop," as Hofstader defined it.  Quick, go read Godel, Escher, Bach!

Wait... I think it makes sense if you don't think of logic as a linear process. Mmh, I think I get it.

What about this?

The sentence below this is a lie.
The sentence above this is truthful.

That's just an extrapolated version. It parses the same way.

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

The sentence below this is a lie.
The sentence above this is truthful.

Yeah, that's the expanded version =)  The entire thing also counts as a strange loop, though on a sentence-by-sentence basis it doesn't.  The reason why mathematicians like the one-sentence version better is because it's more elegant.

If you don't think of logic as a linear process, then what the fuck do you think of it as?  If it's not linear, it solipsism.

I bet it's because our brain emits mind waves that send information up to sattelites in the sky (orbiting Earth), where they interpret the data as best they can before sending the signal back down to Earth.

Of course, you can't move while this process takes place or you'll have a brain fart.

One hand clapping, oh boy I remember trying to do that.

I ended up just snapping though.

I can actually do that with both hands at the same time, via slapping my fingers against my palms. Yeah, I know, missing the point, but still.

The most I can get out of that is a soft "phoom' sound or however the hell you would say it.

There is indeed a problem when sentences start referencing themselves or each other.

Although you could in fact avoid "This statement is a lie" by saying "That statement is unintentionally incorrect".  But that just delays the probelm ("This sentence is not correct").

Not sure why, but looking into this led me to learn about so called "performatives", where, just by saying them, you actually do them (examples: "I name this ship...", "I aknowledge that...", "I declare that...").

I can get a sort of slapping sound by hitting my fingers into my palm quickly.

THIS. People who have read this book are instrinctly inferior to those who have.

Yes, that one is absolutely brilliant :D  That entire section was so good ~  I wasn't as fond of the bits of biology and AI, though.

Ooh, lets play "spot the typos"! I don't know about that book, but the first chapter of my math book is on logic. As I said:

I like how in your world, people are all inferior to each other and themselves. Really sets the tone well.
