Tested negative on the last one, and this has been relatively symptom free aside from sneezing, snot, and a bit of a throaty cough. COVID seems unlikely.

I was in London last week, probably picked whatever it is up from some bugger down there.

EDIT: I'm learning guitar again after a year-long hiatus, and I've learned my technique for how to learn, basically.

I *can* learn bars separately, but my brain won't string them together well. So the best thing to do is to learn the first bar, then learn the connecting piece between bars, then the second bar, and repeat.

To put it into numbers, assuming one bar is four beats:

1(1), 2(1), 3(1), 4(1)3(1), 4(1), 1(2), 2(2)
1(2), 2(2), 3(2), 4(2)

Suddenly I'm finding myself actually able to not only learn songs, but actually approach the song's speed.

Florida Man runs for office with campaign promises of shooting at the government he's running for.

My main problem with Republicans is they claim votes are rigged or stolen but still stand for elections.

Just got the news: an extra week of vacation because of Covid cases in the area. That makes up for the first week of this holiday that I missed because our kid kept puking and the water heater exploded.

My little guy is having his very first day of first grade today. I am very proud and also apprehensive.

Also, he overcame SO MANY SENSORY DIFFICULTIES the last few week of summer (He has autism, and that's part of it for him). We have season passes to a local theme park, but his auditory and motion sensitivity made it impossible for him to ride almost everything. On top of that, one of his big 6-year-old obsessions is roller casters and rides. He watches videos constantly about them, so he was sorta anxious and sad about not being able to.

But, he screwed himself up and started riding some of the small ones and worked his way up to DRIVING A GODDAM GO KART BY HIMSELF on the  last day of summer. Big proud dad vibes.

Meanwhile, I have a 4-month old struggling with such difficult concepts as closing their eyes when they’re tired and not screeching like a banshee.

Closing their eyes is obviously a trick that you're pulling to get them to miss out on undisclosed cool grown up stuff, they ain't gonna fall for that. Instead, they must stay awake and warble loudly.

It is both very rewarding and akin to torture.

Evidently that doesn’t seem to change:p sounds like your kid has a good head on his shoulders though, so I’m sure he’ll be able to get through the rigours of the day and be ready to smash it again tomorrow.

I'm sure he'll be fine. :)

Nah, by this age they don't do that as much. They still try to find ways to avoid bedtime, but they at least don't actively rage against the concept as a general rule.

Somehow the Artemis program completely bypassed me until today.

Now, there's been lots of plans for returning to the moon so my hopes aren't super high, but maybe I'll get to live through a historic event that isn't shitty that I remember. The only other one I can think of is the turn of the millenium and I was too young to remember that.

The turn of the millennium sucked, you didn't miss anything.
Most of us were afraid Y2K was going to throw us back into the Stone Age. But admittedly, I wasn't an adult then, so maybe it was better for them?

I'm hoping to live long enough to see humans on Mars.

Best we can do is see Earth terraformed into Mars
It's improving!
When I was a kid, science fiction was portraying Earth terraforming into Venus.

I missed the fireworks though.

All I got was some vague memories of 9/11 being on the news with no understanding of what it meant because I was too young for that.

But anyway, moon missions. Hopefully because China's trying to get up there itself the US won't pull the funding this time. And if they can get an actual settlement up there it'll be even harder to pull the funding once the dick-waving contest is over.
