Professor said I was 'one of the good programmers' and that she would recommend me to her contacts at Zynga when they come to RIT in 3 weeks. And say what you will about the ethics of their business practices, they pay their employees  and interns well! :D  and with $15k out of pocket cost/year as well as about that much in student loans to go to RIT, lots of money is precisely what I need

Meanwhile I'm putting together my online portfolio site while listening to the (free) OST of Portal 2.
My hate of techno and my love of Portal are at war within my mind. A blue and orange elite SpecOps squadron against a teeming horde of music I can listen to in public.

Oh god Zynga, really? I have heard bad things about their staff treatment. I mean these are only rumours, but still.
Nope. They treat their staff really well; and they sort of have to with the growth they have been having lately. Their goal at the moment is to essentially become a giant like EA while they still have their massive Facebook game revenue to support the growth. They want to hire as many people as possible as quickly as possible, which is the primary reason why their employees are treated so well. And it actually pretty common in the industry to treat employees well, for that exact reason.
Zynga employees pretty much only complain about the treatment of the product or the consumer, it's blatantly capitalist, but the employees themselves seem to be very well treated.

Another interesting tidbit I just stumbled across: The whole 'EA spouse' incident... Turns out the original 'EA spouse' who wrote the blog sparking it actually works for Zynga now as the Lead Systems Designer, so I get the feeling any sort of employee mistreatment wouldn't get far seeing as she is on the board of directors of the IGDA and co-founded an organization to help prevent such mistreatment.

I was reading the website for the Young Communists League of Canada and I saw the best photoshop ever.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There is a legitimate Communist Party in Canada.

When I get to vote I know exactly where it's going.

I'm helping organize some grocery stores to stock food pantries with selected food that's only just past the "sell by" date. It's an interesting tax dynamic and you can trade on the publicity as well. There are some liability issues, but they're manageable.

Be sure to omit the times you did this on a double USB port, and you accidentally tried to plug it into a metal divide between the two USB slots proper.
