I've heard the same things, and I've also heard that doing a hard reset fixes whatever issues arise from that, Sirus. So it's not a "Yeah you never ever ever will get this fixed" issue.

not true

I heard that doing a "genocide run" locks you out of ever getting the "best" ending. As a guy who likes to see as many different endings as possible, that's a huge no-no. I'm not a fan of games that (supposedly) punish players like that.

Bear in mind, this is hear-say. I haven't actually fired it up yet because work keeps me busy, and I really really hope that it isn't true.

the game has a very clear anti-completionist message

radiation's previous work was also pretty heavy with the "gamers do horrible things in-game for the sake of completion" theme

there is no completion percentage, no achievements, nothing at all that encourages you to continue playing past any point you feel like stopping except for the promise of more undertale and never make you want to do certain actions just because something told you to do so; this is by design, and Toby's explicitly stated that he will never put in achievements for that exact reason

the genocide run is basically like Spec Ops: The Line but slightly funner, it makes you feel like shit

...No, you need to do the genocide run to get the best ending. I'm not looking forward to it.

So...that part is true, then? Game locks you out?

I would say some things, but they would not be happy thread material.

Just watched the last 3 episodes of Steven Universe (21-23). Cute and upbeat is refreshing from my usual doom and doom doom gloom doom.

The game does not lock you out, it simply changes the ending a bit to make it... darker. It doesn't lock you out of any gameplay.

It is possible to avoid the consequences by deleting a particular file. Not sure where it is, but I know what it's called.

Its like most things that have multiple endings, you cannot get all of them at once. That would be a paradox.

It began development in Andrew Hussie's basement. Not a metaphor. Toby "Radiation" Fox (the creator of the game) was literally in Andrew Hussie's basement when he began work on the game.
Fuck man!  You should have lead with that :P
I already got the game because cool people seemed to really like it for some reason, and all the pacifism-run talk made me hope for a higher-production-value Iji too.

Also I have got to see what's making everybody *cry*.  Like really, what the hell?
I've avoided spoilers somehow, yay.  Even skipped a couple pages of the sad thread when it was getting discussed.

Well I'm not very far into my 2nd run, so I can't say first-hand... but I've done a little reading and apparently things run deeper and deeper the more you play the game... to the point of discovering hidden characters and background plots.  Plus, your level of violence definitely effects far more than just the ending.

There's a demo if you want to try before paying. I tried it, accidentally got a non-ideal "ending" to it, had a knife stuck in my feels for the rest of the day. :v

In much happier news, i've found a tabletopping place, and am going there to play TODAY. Seems like a swell bunch of people, and i've been itching to roll dice for a while now. SHOOK SOMEWHAT ANXIOUS, BUT SHOOK STILL HAPPY.

Well, I for one can tell you that its a legitimally good game in its genre :v, as in its quite creative in how it integrates plot and gameplay, and how the whole thing is executed. It even accounts for (certain) datamining attempts and integrates it subtly into the plot in some ways. The game is also good at making you care for the characters, while not actualy making them suffer as a "lets make the player care" mechanism. They can suffer if you choose to make it happen, though.

Take it from me, someone who dislikes Homestuck and its fandom, and was rather suspicious of Undertale until I tried it. Its pretty good.
