I'd like to play a DnD game with fellow B12ers, but it seems no one knows HOW the game is going to be played. Real time using IRC/MSN/thos gametable-thingy programs? Or play-by-post?

Where do you guys suggest is a good place for a beginner to start without having to get all the books? Or at least get some basic knowledge?
Everything I know has been gathered from OotS, Goblins, DM of the rings, and trying to learn something from DDO.

This has all of the rules you'll need to get started with 3.5e.  You could probably also join and watch games once we get started, assuming Kinseti is cool with observers, of course.  Watching and playing are the best ways to learn.
