Newest Mayday Download...odd?
« on: October 03, 2009, 03:37:57 pm »

I downloaded the newest Mayday tile/game download from the site a few days ago.  I started creating a world and found that the tiles seemed very strange--they were completely full of color.  Like a river tile would be normal, except the area around the river part of the tile would be completely blue.  While making the game extremely colorful, I have a feeling there is a way to turn that off.

Are these new transparent tiles or something?  How exactly would I have to mod my Init file to get the game to resemble the previous Mayday tileset?  I thought maybe there was a Transparent [ON/OFF] somewhere in the Init, but I couldn't find it.

Please be specific with your advice, as I am not very familiar with modding/changing the Init, especially messing with tilesets and sizes.

Thanks!

It is a matter of the default tileset. Just change it to one of the other tilesets available in the download (there's a quick howto on the download page and a more specific instruction on the wiki).

Ok, followup question, how would you go about changing a tileset which normally has a black background into a colorful one?

It's explained on his website. Go into the ini file and change all instances of mayday.png to maydayMIX or maydayMAX.png.

No, my screen is too small for the 16x16 tiles that Mike uses. (An aggravatingly close 1152 pixels wide)  So I use a 14x16 set w/ black background.  My question is, how do I change the background of any tileset from black to colored?

Oh, sorry. I haven't had much sleep, and misread that. You'd have to ask mayday how he did it.

You would replace the magenta transparent background of the tiles with a dark grey colour, that's all.

A PNG image with a half-transparent background works even better :) (That's how I did it). This has the advantage over a simple gray background in that it doesn't screw up inverted tiles (barrels, some menus).

funny it's the semi transparent background that messes up for me. everything is a blaring contrast between colors as the game wants to solidly color in everything it sees.

of course i already edited the background out and everything is fine.
